William Hurt to Marlee Matlin: “I Apologize for Any Pain I Caused”
Posted by in Articles on Apr 15th, 2009
Marlee Matlin is spilling. William Hurt is sorry.
Matlin has been making the rounds touting her new memoir, I’ll Scream Later, and raising some eyebrows with allegations that she was abused by Hurt during their two-year relationship that blossomed on the set of 1987’s Children of a Lesser God.
“I always had fresh bruises everyday. And if I had a split lip, or if…I mean, there were a lot of things that happened that were not pleasant,” Matlin told Access Hollywood in an interview Monday. “I was always afraid…of him, but I loved him. Or maybe I thought I did. But look, I was 19, he was 35.”
The actress, now 43, recounted one particular incident on the night of her Best Actress win for Children. She claimed Hurt threw her on a bed and stripped her naked as she cried, “No, no, no. Please Bill, no.”
Matlin, whose credits also include The West Wing and Dancing With the Stars, said she eventually became addicted to cocaine, while Hurt has his own struggles and the combination proved dangerous. “I was so wrapped up in his world and my drugs. The drugs took over my life, took over my brain.”
In a statement to E! News on Tuesday, Hurt said that both he and Matlin had moved on.
“My own recollection is that we both apologized and both did a great deal to heal our lives. Of course, I did and do apologize for any pain I caused. And I know we have both grown. I wish Marlee and her family nothing but good.”

Marlee Mention
Posted by in Articles, Marlee on Mar 7th, 2009
Marlee is mentioned HERE. Here is what was said:
Q. | What previous celebrity dancers have moved, inspired or entertained you the most in seven seasons?
A. | Marlee Matlin is a friend of mine. She was amazing, and she couldn’t hear the music. I was e-mailing her before the decision. She said, “Go for it. It is scary, absolutely, but it was exhilarating, totally.” Cloris Leachman also impressed me. I don’t know if I can dance. I have a lot of athletic skills, though. People in Myrtle Beach saw me play all kinds of sports in school [such as tennis and basketball].

‘The L Word’: Farewell bash for the groundbreaking show

With the final episode of Showtime’s The L Word airing on March 8, the stars of the six-season show gathered Tuesday night for a farewell celebration at Café La Bohème in West Hollywood. Creator IIene Chaiken said the show, which challenged stereotypes about lesbian identity, sex and relationships, has made an imprint on the culture. “We have heard stories and gotten letters over the years about how the show has changed people’s lives and outlooks, and I’m proud of that,” she said (top photo: Chaiken, far left, with stars Katherine Moennig and Kate French).
Marlee Matlin, who played the artistic Jodi, admired the show’s ability to reach a mainstream audience. “Whether you were gay or straight, it didn’t matter,” Matlin said. “There was something for everyone here.”
The same could be said for the party, which was presented by EW. For instance, Jane Lynch (Role Models) charmed the room, inspiring huge laughs all evening no matter whom she was talking to. And while the party was a goodbye, the people behind The L Word seemed ready to embrace the future. Chaiken has already shot the pilot for a spinoff series that’ll follow one of the show’s characters into prison. “I am hopeful that it will get on the air on Showtime, and if it does, that’s certainly one way that life will go on for The L Word,” she said. Cast member Laurel Holloman (above, third from right, with Chaiken, Matlin, and, from far left, Rose Rollins, Mia Kirshner, Daniela Sea and Moennig) had an even more immediate future on her mind. “I can’t overdo it or stay out too late,” she said. “I have an audition tomorrow!” — reporting by Carrie Bell

Marlee Matlin has all the right moves
Posted by in Interviews, Marlee on Feb 8th, 2009
When actress Marlee Matlin — who is deaf — danced on the sixth season of “Dancing With the Stars,” it definitely was a “wow” moment.
She did it by following her partner, Fabian Sanchez, “backwards and in heels, as Ginger Rogers said,” Matlin said.
“I did it for several reasons but primarily because it was my family’s favorite show,” Matlin said via e-mail. “I also wanted to show people that I could do whatever I set my mind to. Though I really didn’t want to be the “deaf lady that dances’ — because I’m so much more than that — it turned into that, and the pressure became enormous. I did my best to have a good time and in the end I did.”
Not only did Matlin dance just as well as any of the other celebs, but her beauty, grace and wit charmed the nation. Now, it’s time for act II as Matlin — along with season seven stars Lance Bass, Toni Braxton and Maurice Greene, along with dancers Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Mark Ballas, Derek Hough, Cheryl Burke, Kym Johnson, Alec Mazo, Lacey Schwimmer, Edyta Sliwinska, Karina Smirnoff and Sanchez — bring the “Dancing With the Stars” arena tour to the Prudential Center tonight in Newark and Saturday to the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
“I decided to sign up for the tour because it was such a different kind of experience and one which I thought I would never have the chance to do again,” Matlin said. Read the rest of this entry »
