Marlee Matlin Responds To William Hurt Apology
Posted by in Marlee on Apr 30th, 2009|

Oscar winner Marlee Matlin is questioning the sincerity of an apology issued by fellow actor, and ex-boyfriend William Hurt.

In her new book “I’ll Scream Later,” the actress reveals that her “Children of A Lesser God” co-star abused her while the two were involved in a romantic relationship 20 years ago.

Hurt recently issued a statement saying he had apologized and that he was sorry for any pain that he caused.

But on Wednesday’s edition of ABC’s “The View,” Matlin said Hurt’s apology sounded like it was written by a publicist.

Through an interpreter, the hearing-impaired actress went on to say that Hurt’s initial apologies took place while they both battled drug addictions during their volatile relationship.

Matlin says she doesn’t feel as if Hurt has really apologized to her after all these years, but adds that she has moved on.

The actress is married and has four children.

She will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on May 6th.

Marlee Matlin to receive Walk of Fame star
Posted by in Marlee, News on Apr 29th, 2009|

Marlee Matlin will receive the 2,383rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame May 6, honoring an extensive television and movie career, including being the youngest winner of the best actress Academy Award.

Actor-producer Henry Winkler and Anne Sweeney, president of Disney-ABC Television Group, will join Matlin in speaking in the ceremony in front of the Musso & Frank Grill on Hollywood Boulevard, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which administers the Walk of Fame, announced Monday.

The ceremony will also include children from the Northbrook, Ill.-based International Center of Deafness & the Arts performing a song.

Matlin, who lost all hearing in her right ear and 80 percent of the hearing in her left ear at the age of 18 months because of roseola infantum, made her stage debut in the 1974 at the age of seven in the center’s production of “The Wizard of Oz,’’ as Dorothy. She continued to appear with its children’s theatre group throughout her childhood.

The 43-year-old Matlin will receive the star three weeks after the publication of her autobiography, “I’ll Scream Later” and a day before she will receive the Mary Pickford Award at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Community Foundation’s 16th annual Women of Distinction luncheon.

Born and raised in the Chicago suburb of Morton Grove, Matlin was discovered in a Chicago stage production of the Tony Award-winning play, “Children of a Lesser God.”

Matlin was then cast in the film version, which premiered in 1986, winning the best actress Oscar at the age of 21, the youngest to win the award and one of the few performers to win an Oscar in a film debut.

Matlin’s other film credits include “Walker,’’ “The Man in the Golden Mask,” “The Player,’’ “It’s My Party,’’ “Hear No Evil,’’ “The Linguini Incident,” “What the #$*! Do We (K)now!?’’ and its sequel, “What the Bleep!? Down the Rabbit Hole.’’

Matlin also has an extensive list of television credits, including starring in the 1991-93 NBC crime drama, “Reasonable Doubts” and was a cast member of Showtime’s “The L Word’’ for its final three seasons.

Matlin is a four-time Emmy nominee, three for outstanding guest actress in a drama for appearances on “Picket Fences,’’ “The Practice’’ and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.’’ The fourth was for outstanding guest actress in a comedy for the 1993 episode of “Seinfeld,’’ “The Lip Reader.’’

Matlin also starred in the made-for-television movies, “Bridge to Silence,” her first speaking role, “Against Her Will: The Carrie Buck Story,’’ “Dead Silence,’’ “Freak City,’’ “Where the Truth Lies,’’ and “Sweet Nothing in My Ear.’’

Marlee Matlin Speaks Out Against Domestic Violence
Posted by in Marlee on Apr 25th, 2009|

Actress Marlee Matlin is using the buzz surrounding her recently launched book to bring attention to abuse and domestic violence.

Her memoir, I’ll Scream Later, covers much of Matlin’s life, including her own battles with addiction and the physical and sexual abuses she has endured. But her message is that no one should put up with it.

In an interview on Larry King Live, Matlin made the point that much of her inability to help herself was due to ignorance. When a 16-year-old babysitter abused her as a child, she did not tell anyone because she didn’t know what to do, yet she couldn’t forget and found an escape in drugs. When her high school teacher traded molestation for passing grades, she thought the only thing wrong with the relationship was that he was married. When she was physically abused by a former boyfriend, she didn’t know that it was illegal, that she could ask a neighbour for help, that she could call 911. Read the rest of this entry »

Oscar winner MARLEE MATLIN lost her virginity to a teacher when she was a high school student.
The deaf Children of A Lesser God star reveals all about her troubled upbringing in new book I’ll Scream Later, and recalls her first sex act with a teacher.
Matlin claims she was molested by a babysitter as a child, but first had intercourse when she was an underaged teenager.
She says, “I was interested in exploring the idea of sex and then he showed up. He was a person that I really looked up to and I trusted him and I liked him and he was extremely charming.”
